Postpartum Exercise - Tummy Workout

The best way to get your body back into shape after having a baby is to exercise!

Here's a quick and simple abdominal exercise shared with me by my sister, a certified fitness instructor:

Using slow, controlled breathing, inhale deeply. Allow your belly to fill up and rise with the air. As you exhale, tighten your abdominal muscles to push the air back out. Repeat with each breath as many times as desired.

This can be done in the bath tub or whenever you have a few moments to focus on breathing. It's also safe to be done immediately after giving birth, as long as you feel up to it. It's simple and can help strengthen your stomach and core.

  1. I came across your blog while searching out a sarashi wrap which is very hard to find!! Do you have any idea where to find one? Japanese women where these after birth for thirty days to get their flat abdomens back!

  2. The post just below this one discusses postpartum belly binding: http://mamasandbabies.blogspot.com/2008/10/postpartum-belly-binding.html and has some links to websites that sell various binders or abdominal wraps. I'm not sure if any of them are an exact sarashi wrap that you're referring to, but most of them are based on the same concept as the sarashi. The Belly Bandit: http://bellybandit.com/index.html mentions the sarashi as part of their inspiration in creating their product. You might want to check that out :)
